Meet Thompson & Thomas

Louis Thompson and Sophie Thomas combine artistic vision with environmental advocacy in their collaborative glass works. Louis, a sought-after glassblower, partnered with Sophie, a designer and sustainability activist, when she commissioned him in 2012. Their breakthrough came with Seven Stages of Degradation, featuring hand-blown glass floats alongside barnacle vessels made from plastic waste - a powerful commentary on ocean pollution that earned the 2018 Collect Open award and placement in the Victoria and Albert Museum collection.

Each piece begins with a plastic fragment collected from beaches worldwide that determines its shape. Waste glass is then gathered, formed and blown to illustrate environmental disruption, with the original plastic piece completing the vessel - a compelling visual dialogue between natural beauty and human-made pollution.

Through their compelling collaborative practice, Thompson & Thomas forge sustainable design thinking and spotlight environmental advocacy.
