Meet Thompson & Thomas
Louis Thompson and Sophie Thomas’ collaborative works blend design and sustainability. Thomas, a designer and activist, originally commissioned Thompson, acclaimed glass artist best known for his perceptual explorations of materiality, for a collaborative award project back in 2012.
In 2017, Thomas’ passion for repurposing materials merged with Thompson’s artistic vision and skill for London Glassblowing's "Synergy" exhibition. Inspired by plastic debris found in Hawaii, they created the "Seven Stages of Degradation" series illustrating the danger of ocean plastic pollution. The installation featured a net with hand-blown glass floats and "barnacle vessels" made from plastic waste, intentionally blurring the materials together. This poignant commentary on plastic pollution earned them the 2018 Collect Open award and a place in the Victoria and Albert Museum.
Through their compelling collaborative practice, Thompson & Thomas forge sustainable design thinking and spotlight environmental advocacy.
