Originally created for London Glassblowing’s 40th anniversary celebration, Roulette is the first and only glass gun Layne has ever made. Glass, a seductive and vulnerable material, transmutes a potentially harmful object into a beautifully fragile art form. This piece advocates an alternative to the rage and conflict that fill our world. The stylised weapon has been hand-sculpted with precision, acknowledging the craft in weaponry. Each element was hot formed, blown and sculpted as close to the required shape and size as possible, before being cold worked to achieve its accuracy.

Ten years later, he has revisited the work, giving it a new presence with the addition of a stand and strategically placed lampworked glass daisies emerging from the barrel symbolising peace. The complexity of the piece means it will remain unique and cannot be commissioned.
