Meet Layne Rowe

Layne Rowe is an exceptionally skilled glass artist whose journey began in the 1990s during his 3D design degree at the University of Central Lancashire. Layne was driven by a desire to create beautiful objects through skilful techniques and creative colour applications.

Layne's work has been widely exhibited around the world, notably in the V&A's Power of Making exhibition and annually at Collect since 2013. In 2014 he showed alongside Grayson Perry and Alexander McQueen in Subversive Design.

Over his 30-year career with Peter Layton at London Glassblowing, his artistic journey has continually pushed creative boundaries through perfectly controlled yet organic glass explorations of nature's colours and patterns. While technical mastery remains paramount, he has expanded into imbuing his works with deeper meaning and powerful messages. Inspired by the Devon coastline, Layne's Woven Forms have been evolving for several years.

"I enjoy observing people’s reactions to my work, everything is up for interpretation, as my work is diverse, complex and sometimes subversive. It invites you to look again and again. My introduction to hot glass gave me an insatiable desire to explore this medium to its limits. I find glass an inspiration in itself but have found inspiration from the natural world and its issues”
