‘Hie I’ is a development of ‘Miss.Spent-Youth’, deepening an ongoing investigation into force, material, and transformation. The works begin as blown glass forms produced at London Glassblowing. From these, wax replicas are created and subsequently subjected to impact using custom ammunition, introducing a moment of violence and rupture into an otherwise controlled process. These shot wax forms are then cast in glass and finished with 24-carat gold, preserving and illuminating the precise instant of collision. The gilded surfaces draw attention to the site of impact, transforming destruction into a point of focus and reflection. In this way, the works explore the tension between fragility and force, permanence and ephemerality. The title, derived from an Old English word for “her” (both singular and plural), situates the works within a broader conceptual framework in which Browning considers her gunshot pieces as inherently female. This naming invokes both individuality and collectivity, suggesting a shared presence that resists singular definition.
