Meet Harriet Thorne

After studying for a degree in Philosophy, Harriet went to Seattle to attend a two month course in glass blowing at Pratt Fine Arts Centre where she became hooked. She then studied for her MA at the University of Sunderland and worked in the National Glass Centre. After working, studying and teaching all over the UK and Europe, Harriet came to London Glassblowing in 2021 where she has been able to develop and create her own artworks.

Harriet’s pieces encourages the viewer to physically engage with the work, moving around them to get multiple angles and perspectives. By hand cutting the surface of each piece to form facets, light is refracted around the work, bouncing around the internal space and distorting both the colour and shape of the piece. Similar colour tones are combined to create hues that resist categorisation, rendering each work unique.
