Savanna Portal
Description
Savanna Portal belongs to Tim Rawlinson's series inspired by the dramatic light and undulating horizons of the savanna. Bands of rich orange, deep blue and amber ripple like heat waves, recalling African landscapes as day turns to dusk. Tim builds the colour in painterly layers of glass pigment, which react together to form rich, shifting gradients. Encased in thick clear glass, the blown ball of colour gives the impression of an eye, its surround magnifying and distorting the pattern within so that it changes as you move around it. A unique piece of contemporary art glass, made at London Glassblowing in Bermondsey.
