“My new Blossom series is an iteration of my 1980’s version which was inspired by a visit to the phenomenal collection at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. Moved by his imagery, this proved to be an emotional experience for me. His use of colour and tone, and the character and shifting movements of his brushwork are all interwoven with the story of his life and its struggles. Van Gogh’s vision of Blossom, painted al fresco, was influenced by recent exposure to Japanese art, and to some extent it is this archetypal impression that I have also attempted to capture in glass.” - Peter Layton
