Skyline
Layton’s work includes series of monotypes that explore light and aim to create expression through the use of subtle colour and a rich, painterly quality in print. She uses tones placed side by side to evoke qualities of light and shifts of mood. In 2017, Sophie was accepted to a residency at three different printmaking studios in Japan at which she learned the mokuhanga printing technique. This has been incorporated into her practice to enhance the translucence of her colours. She now has also expanded her monotypes to include Ikebana flower arrangements as their subjects.
