Polaris Mosaic II
Tim Rawlinson's Mosaic reimagines the Venetian ice glass technique. The process involves plunging hot glass into cold water, creating a cracked ice surface effect. Rawlinson cuts and polishes two sides, revealing the underside of the fractured surface. This approach maximises the optical qualities, resulting in a jewel-like piece that sparkles in light. The textured surface distorts and fragments internal colours, echoing the large floor mosaics of Pompeii that initially inspired the artist. Mosaic blends ancient technique with contemporary vision, creating a captivating interplay of light and colour.
