Fragment 8262
Fragment 8262 was created in collaboration with the Victoria and Albert Museum for their "How It's Made" YouTube channel. The work draws inspiration from a 16th century hand-blown glass beaker fragment, catalogue number 8262, discovered while exploring the museum's collection drawers.
Elliot was captivated by this forgotten shard, the sole remaining piece of what was once a complete vessel. The original beaker featured gilded fish decorations, which Elliot has meticulously recreated in their original positions.
Throughout his practice, Elliot has been fascinated by dimensional transformation. This work represents the culmination of this interest - translating the 2D fish illustrations from the historical artifact into dynamic 3D sculptural forms. By reimagining these decorative elements as spatial objects, Elliot breathes new life into a forgotten remnant, creating a dialogue between past craftsmanship and contemporary artistic vision.
