Such was its prestige, that wealthy hosts would often display pineapples as elaborate centrepieces at their gatherings, where they served purely as objects of admiration, rather than consumption. These prized fruits would be displayed prominently at social events, their mere presence signifying the host's wealth and sophistication, while guests would marvel at their distinctive form and regal presence.
