25 years of the Contemporary Glass Society
2022 was noteworthy for a number of reasons: Firstly, it was the United Nations International Year of Glass, something which we here at London Glassblowing were very excited about. Secondly, it marked the 25th anniversary of the Contemporary Glass Society, which Peter Layton co-founded. CGS is the UK’s foremost organisation for the promotion and support of cutting-edge contemporary glass and glass artists.
To celebrate this milestone, CGS curated a special exhibition, Earth/Sea/Sky, to be shown at London Glassblowing Gallery during the month of July. This was a juried show in which selected artists showcased new and exciting works, some of a collaborative nature, either through working together with another artist or by combining materials and/or techniques.
This diverse exhibition highlighted the variety of directions and talents currently at work within British Glass Art.

Panel Discussion
We presented a live-streamed artists' panel discussion, hosted by Tim Rawlinson and featuring Verity Pulford, Laura Quinn and Vanessa Cutler.
This is a wonderful opportunity to listen to these exciting artists discussing their ideas and creative processes.

Women in Glass - Exhibition Open Call
London Glassblowing invites applications from UK-based women working in glass to take part in Women in Glass, a group exhibition opening in September 2027 to coincide with the studio's celebration of Peter Layton's ninetieth birthday. We are pleased to welcome back Cathryn Shilling, London Glassblowing's gallery curator from 2010 to 2019, who returns as guest curator for this special exhibition.
A Bermondsey Street Collaboration
Renowned glass artist and founder of London Glassblowing, Peter Layton, has collaborated with old friend and celebrity chef, José Pizarro, to create 30 limited-edition platters, launching on 12 October, to celebrate the 15th anniversary of José Pizarro on Bermondsey Street and the 50th anniversary of London Glassblowing.
