Celebrating Community and Creativity at the Bermondsey Street Festival

The Bermondsey Street Festival, a cherished tradition that embodies the creativity and resilience of our community, is returning for its 18th year. This vibrant celebration brings together residents, visitors, and local businesses to showcase the unique charm of Bermondsey Street.

From its humble beginnings as a small local gathering, the festival has evolved into an integral part of the gallery's events calendar, fostering connection and community. On the day of the festival, the gallery comes alive with excitement as visitors hunt for discounted treasures and watch our skilled glassblowers at work.

However, the festival's impact reaches far beyond a single day of festivities. It strengthens community bonds and boosts the local economy by providing a platform for businesses and entrepreneurs to showcase their talents. When the original organiser, Bill Owen, announced him stepping down, the festival faced an uncertain future. Thanks to the dedication of local businesses like ours, and especially to our Gallery Director, Gena Johns, who has taken on the organisation of the festival, the event has been successfully revived. With additional support from George Cobb, Managing Director of Daniel Cobb Estate Agents, and other committed volunteers, the festival has come back to life. Their commitment, alongside support from Southwark Council, Team London Bridge, and local developers, has been instrumental in preserving this beloved tradition.

As we look forward to the 2024 festival, attendees can anticipate an even richer experience. The event will feature a diverse array of food stalls, artisan and craft stalls, and local businesses showcasing their offerings. Live music and various activities will fill Bermondsey Street, while Leathermarket Gardens will host a family-friendly wellbeing and community area. Tanner Street Park will offer delicious cuisine and drinks, ensuring a lively and enjoyable atmosphere for all.

As always, London Glassblowing will offer an eclectic array of glassworks at exclusive discounts for the festival. In addition to our stall on Bermondsey Street, we will host a Yard Sale in our car park area on Carmarthen Place, accessible via the cobbled road beside the gallery. Visitors can expect to discover treasures by Peter Layton and our talented team, making it an exciting event for both glass enthusiasts and festival-goers.

At London Glassblowing, we are proud to play a vital role as sponsors to support and promote the Bermondsey Street Festival.

We invite you to be a part of our community and your support is needed more than ever this year. The festival is seeking funding and volunteers, if you can help in any way email: contact@bermondseystreetfestival.org.uk
