We are pleased to announce a remarkable event in the world of glass art: the internationally renowned artist Danny Lane will be exhibiting alongside Peter Layton at our PAD London debut. This exhibition marks a meeting of masters, bringing together two of the most influential figures in contemporary glass art for an extraordinary showcase.

Barbed Wire Table, Danny Lane

Danny Lane’s artistic journey is nothing short of phenomenal. After beginning his studies in painting at the Central School of Art and Design, he set up his own studio in Hackney, and has since risen to global prominence. His works, featured at prestigious fairs in Milan, Paris, and beyond, have garnered international acclaim. His ascent is a testament to his relentless drive, boundless creativity, and passion for pushing the boundaries.

Danny's sculptures are defined by their bold, monumental qualities and his groundbreaking approach to glass as a medium. Danny's works celebrate the material in its purest form, skilfully juxtaposing transparency, compression, and the contrast of sharp and smooth surfaces. By blending the fragility of glass with the rawness of industrial materials like wood and metal, he creates dynamic, large-scale pieces that captivate the viewer, highlighting both his technical skill and fearless experimentation.

Emerald Table, Danny Lane

Beyond his technical expertise, it is Danny's ability to fuse intellect with intuition that distinguishes him in the global glass art community. A pivotal figure in urging glass artists to move beyond traditional craft and embrace a wider artistic vision, Lane’s work in the 1980s, aligned with the avant-garde furniture movement, has always defied categorisation, blurring the lines between art, craft, and design.

By exhibiting with London Glassblowing at PAD London, Danny Lane reaffirms his deep connection to the craft world, a relationship that has been central to his practice since his early days in Hackney. Our debut at PAD offers a rare opportunity to view Danny Lane's work alongside that of Peter Layton, in a showcase that highlights the diverse possibilities of glass as a medium. While Peter's fluid, organic approach to glassblowing contrasts Danny's structured, monumental works, together they demonstrate the full expressive range of glass art.
