Vesuvius

£3,500.00

The use of colour is done in a painterly fashion, building up layers of glass pigment. The glass colours in this work undergo a chemical reaction when mixed together in this way, creating rich gradients of colour. The blown ball of colour is suspended in a thick layer of clear glass and gives the impression of an eye. The clear surrounding also magnifies and distorts the internal colour, evoking the quality of marbling in textiles.

Telescopic photography of outer space has been a rich source of inspiration. The suspended ball of blown colour evokes a far off galaxy, a micro world encapsulated within the clear glass.
