For Patchen, his glass work originates from an exploration of patterns. Early in his career, he sketched designs to study colour combinations and record ideas for future use. Now when crafting murrine cane, he often starts with a specific palette in mind or experiments with arranging cut segments to achieve visually striking mosaics ready for hot sculpting. Using Patchen's vibrant murrine patterns as the canvas, Devereux sculpts his sinuous, biomorphic shapes. Devereux's fluid, naturalistic forms breathe life into the abstract geometries, integrating them into evocative sculptural works.
