Meet Graeme J Reeves
Graeme studied Fine Art Sculpture at the University of Brighton, and since graduating has spent fifteen years on a journey of discovery to learn about materials and processes, by working in a variety of creative industries. These have ranged from costume design, props for film and theatre, art fabrication and most recently set builds for museum exhibitions.
About The Work
Graeme believes that having a broad understanding of materials; their limitations and possibilities, widens the scope for creativity. Always having had a passion for working with wood mainly for its tactile quality and the warmth and texture of its natural patterns, his choice of ash derives from the rich history of its use in the UK, and being a native species he is able to use local timber.
Taking inspiration from sculptors such as Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore and Isamu Noguchi as well as modernist architects like Le Corbusier, he has endeavoured to achieve bold yet serene qualities. By using and cutting through thick solid components Graeme has sought to create a sense of space and light in his pieces, while monochromatic colouring highlights their form.
