Ghost Ocean, Reef Vessel with Umbrella Handles

Ghost Ocean: Reef Vessels is a collaborative protest against ocean pollution by designer Sophie Thomas and glass artist Louis Thompson. The artwork incorporates plastic waste collected globally, from Hawaii to the Thames, into glass vessels. Each piece begins with a plastic fragment that inspires its shape, followed by gathering waste glass, shaping, and blowing. Some shards are engraved with marine imagery and packaging details. The original plastic piece completes each vessel. This series, part of a larger installation at The Glass Heart exhibition in London (April 2024), aims to raise awareness about the devastating impact of 'ghost' nets and plastic on marine ecosystems.
