James Devereux

Meet James Devereux
James Devereux has been working in glass from the age of 15, when he discovered a natural talent for the craft. Specialising in hot glass, his skills cover solid forms as well as blown pieces, and his extensive knowledge of glass techniques means he is always primed for new challenges. During this time he has been privileged to work with a host of skilled glassmakers and studios.
In 2013 James set up studio in collaboration with glass artist Katherine Huskie. Through their combined talents, Devereux and Huskie Glassworks attracts some of the finest artists in the country as a place to make their work.
The Clovis Collection represents the result of laboured experiments by James to literally chip hot glass like stone. After perfecting this unusual technique, he produces monolithic objects with smooth lines juxtaposed against fractured edges. Within his works, James often explores our interaction and fascination with ancient artefacts; perhaps it is the untold stories of worship, sacrifice and survival held within them that spark our imagination, or the pure beauty of our ancestors' craftsmanship.
