Aquamarine Ellipse
Part of the Ellipse series, this work by David Patchen uses the murrine technique to create windows of moss and aquamarine with threads of indigo. Inspired by colour and detail, Patchen uses each of his creations as a study of contrasting dense detail with bands of transparent windows in both contrasting and complimentary colours. He injects motion to this detailed Ellipse through the subtle twist in the spiral pattern. This is created by switching the pattern from the initial blow pipe to another at a right angle, placing the vanishing point on the face of the piece.
