Hold - there where I am not
The title for Karen’s new artwork is derived from Foucault’s description of mirrors as heterotopia; ‘in the mirror I see myself there where I am not, in an unreal, virtual space that opens up behind the surface.’
During this pandemic a new heterotopia has been created, Zoom, in which we all meet. Hold - there where I am not created from cast polished grey glass, references the historic use of mirrors for scrying, new virtual meeting places and feelings of comfort and isolation created during the pandemic.
