Among several designs created for our 2014 VETRO exhibition, one of the most enduring and inspired is Burano. Indeed it is still evolving some ten years later, in possibly its most exciting iterations so far. In a play on traditional Venetian filigree techniques, such as laticino and reticello, I have tried to recreate extraordinary graphic effects and Moire patternwork in my ongoing series.

The title, Burano, honours the skills of Murano’s neighbouring island where lacemaking is a centuries old tradition. This series involves intricate lacelike networks encapsulated within the matrix of both blown and solid forms.
