About this piece
Karen started her career in glass as a glassblowing assistant. We are fortunate to have been able to acquire some extremely rare examples of her work which date back to these early years of Karen’s practice. This is one such example. Karen used layer upon layer of coloured glass powders in her blown work. Once cool she began sandblasting the surface in order to reveal each distinct layer. These profusely worked vessel forms were the beginning of Karen’s fascination for texture and layering. A fascination that permeated every aspect of her career and lasted a lifetime.
