About this piece
Karen derived her inspiration from ice and the almost fathomless complexities in the way frozen structures form within nature. In a way, Karen’s technique almost emulates the natural process of crystallisation. By methodically arranging strands and granules of clear glass, then heating them in a kiln to just above the melting point, she was able to direct the solidification process, creating pieces which expertly mirrored the beauty of naturally occurring ice formations.
