About this piece
Karen’s fascination with layering stretched all the way back to her earliest days at London Glassblowing, where she worked as a hotshop assistant. She used to build up layers of powdered colour, which was then carefully removed through the process of sandblasting. This time-consuming technique not only allowed Karen to achieve some incredible and high unique patterns, but also imparted a marvellous textural quality to the work. These examples of her blown work are extremely rare and each piece should be viewed as historically significant.
