Materials/Technique: Blown glass, sandblasted
About this piece
Karen’s fascination with textured surfaces extended into her blown work. These remarkable vessels have been profusely sandblasted, a process by which extremely thin layers of glass are removed with a jet of fine sand. The sandblasting process allowed Karen to remove much of the opaque colour, leaving beautiful expanses of translucency. The textured finish left by the sandblasting process contrasts impeccably with the almost spectral imagery remaining on the surface. Please note that the price above refers to the Bowl – the right hand piece in the group image.
