Desire is the beginning of a new series of work by Louis Thompson that stems from a long-standing interest in expressing ideas beyond the purely visual. “I want to make pieces that enrich the visual experience with a physical one. I am encouraging a closer, more intimate inspection of these objects that arouse the longing to touch the pieces.”
The forms reference the human body- touching and feeling, folds, creases, bumps, curves and the interplay of the hand on a surface. The pieces are lightly textured giving them a skin-like quality. Colour, too, plays a significant part in these new pieces. The use of richly coloured opaque glass gives the pieces a satin-like finish stripping away their glassiness.
