Materials/Technique: Glass cane, fused and slumped
About this piece
As well as being a prodigious artist, Karen was also a resolute experimenter. She would consistently push the boundaries of her own discipline, each time extending it a little further. As a result, her knowledge in the field of glass science achieved world reknown. This seemingly innocuous dish form demonstrated exactly why Karen was the very best at what she did. The piece seemlessly blends four completely separate colours into one harmonious and beautiful object. A technical achievement beyond the skill of nearly every other practitioner.
