Spring Open House 2019

03.05.19 - 12.05.19

Our Spring Open House returns for 2019, and this year we are delighted to spotlight artist Layne Rowe as part of London Craft Week, in his showcase, Refined Elements, from 3 – 12 May.

During the Spring Open House, we’re open 7 days a week! We hope to see you Monday – Saturday, 10 am to 6 pm, Sunday 5 May, 11am or 5pm, or Sunday 12 May, 11 am to 5 pm. As part of our Open House traditions, we’ll have our studio sale table with pieces by Peter Layton and the team at the back of the gallery, all at generously discounted prices, as well as a showcase of seasonal work in the main gallery, and Peter will be releasing a new series – watch this space!

A long-serving resident artist at London Glassblowing, and with over 25 years of glassblowing experience under his belt, Layne is well versed in the craft. We are incredibly excited to see what he will bring to the gallery this Spring with daring new pieces in progress and revisits to his renowned ‘Woven Forms’, inspired by the Devon coastline.

Join us for a Live Glassblowing Demonstration with Layne on Saturday 11 May at 11am, 2pm and 4pm.

Dreams, Layne Rowe

Dreams, Layne Rowe

Layne’s newest work, Dreams, is a reflection of the artist’s relationship with the material – his ability to capture the beauty, fragility and vulnerability in glass. Having perfected his technique, Layne’s talent of expressing intricate detail can be seen within the feathers. The resulting pattern and texture has an extraordinary complexity that demands the close attention of discerning viewers to discover the hidden secrets.

"All my works begin life as experiments, and some of the mistakes can create the greatest things."

"I enjoy observing people's reactions to my work. Everything is up for interpretation, my work is diverse and complex and sometimes subversive. It invites you to look again and again."
