In 2016, the Contemporary Glass Society (CGS) created a new and exciting opportunity for aspiring glass artists, the New Graduate Review.
Through this publication, the CGS are able to present the work of 18 selected students graduating from institutions across the UK and Ireland to a broader audience. The annual call attracts an excellent selection of applications from a wide range of courses, from BTEC to Masters, with work by graduates from adult education colleges in addition to graduates from the few remaining university courses.
Glass is a particularly challenging material with skills and techniques that can take many years to master, but the standard of the selected entries is high, and shows that there is still a rich depth of talent to be nurtured here.
This year, London Glassblowing is delighted to be supporting the CGS’s excellent new initiative that puts our home grown talent firmly on the international glass stage. From 14 – 22 September the gallery will be showcasing work by some of these aspiring glass artists. The contrasting approaches, from conceptual to highly technical, the diversity of styles, and the originality and sheer beauty of many of the submissions are particularly exciting, and we feel that this all bodes well for the future of British glass.
We are delighted to have selected the glasswork of the following new graduates to display in the gallery in support of CGS’ initiative:
