FAQs

What will I learn?

These popular sessions are designed to teach basic techniques under the tuition of our highly qualified glass artists. The emphasis of the day is to provide an enjoyable and productive hands-on experience. Through demonstration and close supervision you will quickly acquire an understanding of the working properties of glass in its molten form and gain the confidence to manipulate this extraordinary material in a variety of ways.

How many pieces will I make?

You will explore form, texture, colour and pattern to create 4 objects including blown vessels. The tweet below shows an example of what you can create during the day.

How long is the class?

All classes last the whole day, from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm, with an hour lunch break.

When can I collect my pieces?

After cooling in our annealing kiln for 36 hours, your pieces will be finished by your tutor and must be collected during the following week. Alternatively we can ship your pieces to you at an additional cost (approximately £20 for UK delivery).

How many students are there?

A maximum of six students are enrolled with two experienced tutors, (3 students per bench) so while instruction and learning is intensive, the day is most stimulating and highly enjoyable.

Are there age restrictions?

For health and safety reasons, students must be a minimum of 18 years old.

Do I need to be super-strong or have incredible lungs…?

Not at all. Our expert tutors will guide you throughout and the pieces you will be making will not be exceptionally heavy. Whilst you do need a bit of puff in your lungs, you certainly don’t need to be an olympic athlete.

How much is a class?

The cost for both the Beginners’ Class and Beginners’ Part II Class is £450, and includes a light lunch at a Bermondsey Street restaurant, all tuition and materials and the finishing of your pieces.

When are the classes?

Classes are mostly held on a Saturday (and occasionally on a Sunday) and owing to their popularity, early booking is recommended. View the list of dates above to see availability.

Do you cater for corporate / group classes?

Yes we do – click here to view our Corporate Experiences page and then contact us to discuss a bespoke package.

Can I come back for more?

Yes! Many of our students have asked if we could provide a follow up class, so we have reserved three dates during 2016, for students who have previously completed a beginners’ class with us. During these classes students will explore more advanced colour application techniques (e.g. creating trails of solid colour and using optic moulds) to create interesting patterns and textures. The dates for ‘Part II’ classes are 30th April, 9th July and 22nd October 2016.

I cannot say enough great things about the class or the studio - just a wonderful place to be! I think I enjoyed the Part II course even more than Part I because I was able to focus more on the techniques and had a better grasp of the basics like shaping, picking up glass, using the tools, and I felt more familiar in the studio. The tutors were exceptional as always - so patient, helpful and genuinely excited to watch our collaborative creations come to life.
